Abstract AbstractJoseph Brodsky is not only a great Russian poet but also a great English language's essayists; On Grief and Reason is the last and most important collection of his essays where the content and the form, the style and the characteristics of his prose writings could be seen obviously. Imitating such intersect genres as "prose poem" and "rhythmical prose", we could call Brodsky's essays as "poem prose". To paraphrase Brodsky's own thesis that "prose for Tsvetaeva was nothing but the continuation of poetry by other means", some scholars have defined Brodsky's prose also as such "continuation", but based on scanning and analysing of 21 essays of On Grief and Reason, this paper has got its conclusion that Brodsky's prose are not only "continuation" but also the "development" of his poetry and they could be seen as the "existence" with its individual style and independent genre meaning. |
