As a strong oil and gas producing country, Russia is not only willing but also capable to a certain extent to challenge rules of the game on the current world oil system. But after recent fluctuation in oil prices and the impact of misfortunes including financial and economic crisis, the limits of Russia’s capabilities in challenging has been fully exposed. As a result, the challenges have come to the end of a stage totally for the time being. Why? It is mainly because of Russia's defects in its own power and the structural constraints by external factors as well. There exists great uncertainty on whether Russia can completely change the power structure and rules of oil system. 【Аннотация】 Россия, являясь крупным производителем нефти и газа, желает и обладает определёнными возможностями оспорить правила игры существующего мирового рынка нефти. Однако после недавних колебаний цен на нефть, глобального финансового и экономического кризиса и иных неблагоприятных событий, полностью раскрылась ограниченность возможностей России бросить такой вызов. Причины невозможности России бросить вызов заключаются в недостатке собственной власти и структурного сдерживания внешних факторов. Сможет ли Россия полностью изменить структуру и правила игры на рынке нефти является спорным вопросом.
