Abstract Abstract The rise, fall and transition of the Soviet Union is one of the seminal events for the international relation pattern, which cast into doubt many of the core principles of comparative politics and international relations. It could be found that the interest in Russian area studies in the past 20 years is waning through either combing of literature on Russian political studies published publicly in the U.S.A. or summarizing and reviewing main issues of Russian studies in the U.S.A. after 1991. The reason is that American government has cut down its finance on one hand and on the other hand the political science prefers conducting mathematical analysis to regional studies. Moreover, Russian transition does not come up to the expectation of the West, which has weakened American scholars’ interest in Russian politics studies as well.
